Established 1904

West Park Healthcare Centre is pleased to offer a new Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Adult Day Program. The program is funded by the Toronto Central LHIN. It was established in response to the LHIN,s call for proposals to use new province-wide funding for increasing community capacity to assist adults with ABI to live more independently. COTA Health, a key program partner, provides program development and case management services. Referrals come through the Toronto ABI Network. The program engages participants in meaningful activities. The ABI Adult Day Program operates from 10:00am unti 2:30pm 5 days per week; each client attends 1-2 days per week for about 6 months. Clients with challenging behaviours make up a portion of the program,s participants. Caregiver support includes education on managing ongoing behaviours, and a respite bed is available for overnight client stays. The program is held at West Park, which is barrier-free, so clients with physical disabilities can participate. For 2 of the 5 days per week, wheelchair accessible transportation is provided to and from the client,s home in the area between Highway 401, Yonge Street, Islington Avenue, and Lake Ontario; other clients are welcomed if they have their own transportation. The program will open as of October 4, 2010. For additional information, please contact Tania Thomas at 416-243-3600, ext. 2614 or tania.thomas@westpark.org.
